Hearing set on challenge to more Kuilima hotels
The state Land Use Commission will hold a hearing tomorrow to address a request to rescind a 1986 reclassification of land that now allows as many as five new hotels to be built at the North Shore's Turtle Bay Resort.
Defend O'ahu Coalition maintains that the reclassification can be rescinded because the landowner has not met conditions set forth in a reclassification agreement, said Bob Nakata, coalition chairman. Nakata said a rule puts a five-year time limit on meeting such conditions. But the landowner has maintained that no time limit was included in the original agreement.
The coalition wants the commission to direct Kuilima Resort Co. to "show cause" as to why the property should not revert to its previous agriculture classification.
The commission meeting is set for 9 a.m. at the Leiopapa A Kamehameha Building, 235 S. Beretania St., Room 204.
