The City and County of Honolulu seeks nominees for an award that will honor seniors who age successfully through their careers and community service.
The award is part of the city's Honolulu Forever Young campaign, which aims to "change the perception of retirement and aging by honoring those who continue to accomplish great things in their later years," a news release said.
"These young at heart individuals are defining and transforming what life adventures and opportunities open at age 65," said Mayor Mufi Hannemann. "They are change masters and they are reshaping how we think and plan for our later years."
Baby boomers currently represent more than 50 percent of the city's workforce, and 27 percent will be eligible for retirement by 2012, said Joan White, a member of the Oahu Workforce Investment Board and chair of the planning committee.
The award is based on accomplishments in career success, community service and philanthropy as well as mentoring, building social capacity and healthy aging.
Nominees must be 65 or older, work at least 19 hours per week and reside in the City and County of Honolulu.
Entry forms will be accepted until Aug. 1. Winners will be announced Aug. 15.
The campaign is a partnership of the city and several businesses, including HMSA and the Queen's Health System.
