Oahu boating office relocates to Sand Island

Advertiser Staff

HONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources' O'ahu District office of the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has moved from the central downtown office on Queen Street to the Ke'ehi Small Boat Harbor, 4 Sand Island Access Road. The new district phone number is 832-3520 and the fax number is 832-3524.

The new office houses O'ahu district manager Meghan Statts, assistant district manager Wesley Choi, a secretary and a clerk. They will share space with the Ke'ehi Small Boat Harbor staff of eight. The O'ahu district office will issue marine event permits, ocean recreation management area (ORMA) and commercial registrations, issue tow-in surfing decals, and handle other O'ahu district and harbor related questions/issues.

The O'ahu District office will not handle renewals of vessel registrations. Renewals will still be processed at DOBOR's main office at 333 Queen St., 3rd floor, or on-line via www.vessel.ehawaii.gov.

"Relocating the O'ahu district office to Ke'ehi Small Boat Harbor will provide more room for staff, and move services to a more accessible location with free parking for the boaters it serves," said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR chairperson.

DOBOR's O'ahu district consists of five small boat harbors at Ala Wai, Ke'ehi Lagoon, Hale'iwa, He'eia-Kea and Wai'anae, in addition to launch ramps at Kahana Bay, Maunalua Bay, Sand Island, and ocean management areas in Waikiki beach waters, Poka'i bay and Kane'ohe bay. The O'ahu District office handles most issues from the high water mark on our island beaches to three miles out to sea around the island of O'ahu.
