Clay Stanley, a Kaiser High and University of Hawai'i alum, has been named to the U.S. men's Olympic indoor volleyball team that will compete in Beijing, according to the USA volleyball Web site.
Stanley, a 30-year-old, 6-foot-9 opposite, will be competing in his second Olympics. He also played in 2004 in Athens.
Also named to the squad were Lloy Ball, Gabe Gardner, Kevin Hansen, Tom Hoff, Rich Lambourne, David Lee, Ryan Millar, Reid Priddy, Sean Rooney, Riley Salmon and Scott Touzinsky.
Former UH players Delano Thomas and Alfee Reft, who are members of the U.S. national team, were not selected.
Hugh McCutcheon, the U.S. national team head coach since 2005, will serve as the Olympic team's coach. It will be his first Olympic Games as a head coach. He served as an assistant under Doug Beal in 2004 in Athens, when the U.S. finished fourth.
"We feel very confident that we have selected the best team to represent this country at the upcoming Olympic Games," McCutcheon said on www.usavolleyball.org. "We have a good mix of experience and youth."
