How's this for devoted stage mothers: Pat Ferraris and Jan Davis are the owners of Maile, the Australian silky terrier portraying Toto in the summertime hit "The Wizard of Oz," now at Diamond Head Theatre. Maile and her owners live on the North Shore, but for the duration of the run of the musical (extended through Aug. 3), Ferraris and Davis have rented a cottage a block away from DHT for rehearsals and shows (three months!). Not quite Kansas, but a lot closer to the theater and within walking distance. The landlord, whose family members are longtime DHT supporters, provides a break in the rent. Meanwhile, Maile is stealing the show — a real show-biz cutie. ...

SIGHT 'ems: When actor Matt Damon was in town last month for a brief scene in Makaha for Warner Bros.' "The Informant," there certainly wasn't an informant to buzz about his stint. But he had bulked up so much for this role, he might have been spotted but not recognized. Damon plays Mark Whitacre, a whistleblower, in a true-life story about a price-fixing antics at Archer Daniels Midland Co. ...

While here for his Fourth of July performance at Schofield Barracks, singer Billy Ray Cyrus had some achy breaky heart moments when he visited more than 100 wounded warriors and their families at the Warrior Assistance Center at Schofield. He shook hands, posed for pics and thanked the soldiers for their service to the country. "The sacrifice they make for this great country is overwhelming," Cyrus said, signing autographs with "Follow your dream" messages. ...

Spotted in People magazine this week, with a Maui dateline: Ashley Tisdale, of Disney's "High School Musical" and "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," with beau Jared Murillo. She was here to celebrate her birthday. ... In the same issue, Navy doc Andy Baldwin, aka "The Bachelor," displayed his pecs with red, white and blue at a Malibu Beach. He may be on HBO's "Entourage," with new pal Jeremy Piven. ...

DINING NOTES: Flamboyant culinary celeb Marcel Vigneron (remember him as the runner-up in Season 2 of Bravo's "Top Chef"?) loved the omakase menu at D.K. Kodama's newest Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar at Waikoloa on the Big Island. Vigneron participated in the annual Dolphin Days event. ...

Restaurateur Randy Schoch, chairman of Desert Island Restaurants (which has the franchises for Ruth's Chris and Romano's Macaroni Grill), is summering here with wife Cheri and teen kids Randall and Victoria. Dad and mom are showing the teens Ruth's Chris at The Shops at Mauna Lani and the still-under-construction Mac Grill at the Queens' MarketPlace at the Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Big Island. ...

Burton White, Hawai'i Theatre g.m. and artistic director, and pal Robert Cazimero had a craving for steak at Ruth's Chris in Restaurant Row. Cazimero, just back from a Las Vegas trip to see Bette Midler ("fabulous," he cooed), is spending regular time in the gym, trying to buff up. "I want bumps on my arms," he said of muscles. By the way, when Cazimero and his gents from Halau Na Kamalei perform at Saturday's Prince Lot Hula Festival at Moanalua Gardens, he'll have two wahine involved, too: Kanoe Miller and Nani Dudoit. ...

itemizations: Jasmine Trias isn't doing her stint this week with the Society of Seven Las Vegas because of throat and voice problems, but resumes her shows Tuesday — and thus extends her stay a week, through Aug. 7 (beyond her planned July 31 departure). "She brought a note from her doctor, but I told her this is not school, so we agreed that she take the week off," said Frannie Kirk, Outrigger Entertainment honcho. Locals have been rediscovering SOS LV and Trias' presence has spiked attendance, with folks like Rick Blangiardi, Scott Fernandez, Linda Coble, Kirk Matthews, Carole Kai and Eddie Onouye cheering on the guys and Trias. ...

Finally got to see "Rocky Horror Show," doing sell-out biz at Manoa Valley Theatre. It's Tony Young's break-out performance as the cross-dressed Frank N. Furter, and MVT's inventive two-tier staging with beaucoup entrance and exit positions — and in-the-crowd romps by the cast. Plenty of old-fashioned, bizarre fun ... even in the costumed orchestra led by Melina Lillios. Gary Kissinger, a name from the past, is on guitar. ...

Locals aren't the only ones eager to get seduced by "Mamma Mia!," the musical heading for Blaisdell Concert Hall in May. Ex-resident Gene Allen, of Beach Glass Bingo (jewelry maker), is booking a flight here. Yeah, it's early, but this is a must-see; I've seen it in New York and Toronto, and it's a jewel with many sparkling tunes that lift the spirit. ...
