Wastewater plant wins performance award
The city's Wai'anae Wastewater Treatment Plant received the Platinum Peak Performance Award yesterday for 2007 from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies at its summer conference and annual meeting in Anchorage, Alaska.
The treatment plant earned the Platinum 6 Award for six consecutive years of perfect compliance with its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.
The Wai'anae plant, opened in 1968, treated 1.223 billion gallons of wastewater during 2007, averaging 3.351 million gallons a day.
It was one of three city treatment plants to receive awards. The Honouliuli and Wahiawa wastewater treatment plants garnered Gold Awards for 2007. Honouliuli processed 9.716 billion gallons during 2007, while Wahiawa handled 617.98 millions of gallons on the year.
