There will be multiple lane closures starting today on Pali Highway in upper Nu'uanu and Kailua to allow the state to do tree removal, pavement and shoulder-fence repair work, according to the Department of Transportation.

Traffic on Pali Highway will be affected in the following areas:

  • Monday through Friday between Wyllie Street and the Pali Tunnel, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming. Certified arborists determined that about five dozen trees lining the Pali Highway are safety hazards to passing motorists. Many of these trees have visible termite damage, vertical splits, or lean over the road which could potentially cause damage or injury to motorists. The trees being removed are considered invasive, such as the ironwood, albizzia, and formossa koa.

  • Monday from Puiwa Road to Wyllie Street in the Honolulu-bound direction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., for pavement and shoulder fence repair. The two right-most lanes will be closed in the morning, with the middle lane scheduled to be open in the early afternoon.

  • Tuesday from Wyllie Street to Puiwa Road in the Kailua-bound direction from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for pavement repairs. The two right-most lanes will be closed in the morning, with the middle lane opening in the early afternoon.
