Hilo completed the long, difficult road placed in front of it yesterday on the final day of the Little League Juniors (ages 13-14) State Tournament at Ala Wai field.
It was a path only a deep and talented team could have navigated.
Hilo won three games, including two over previously unbeaten 'Aiea, 8-2 and 10-4.
Hilo also finished off a 13-2 victory over MKH early yesterday in the completion of a suspended game. Hilo led 10-0 in the fourth inning Saturday night when the lights at Ala Wai didn't go on.
"It was exhausting," said Hilo's Taylor Goo, who drove in three runs in the final game. "We all went to sleep early (Saturday) night. We're going back to the hotel and sleeping."
Hilo, which lost its first game in the double-elimination tournament, won five in a row to capture the title.
"This team is unbelievable," said Jayce Carvalho, who pitched a one-hitter in the first victory over 'Aiea. "I'm having my first everything with this team: first district champ, state champs. I love this team. I love each and every one of them. These guys are like my brothers."
Hilo advances to the West Regional in Aliso Viejo, Calif., July 29 to Aug. 5.
"If we hit, we'll win, straight up," Hilo coach Kaha Wong said. "Our pitching will take care of itself, our defense will be OK. If we hit, we'll be OK."
'Aiea won its first two tournament games to reach the final, before running into Hilo.
"They're an awesome team," 'Aiea coach Richard Nagata said of Hilo. "I've seen and played with all kinds of teams on the Mainland and stuff, but this is one of the best teams I've seen. They're strong. I'm pretty sure they're going to do well on the Mainland."

Carvalho pitched a one-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts as Hilo beat 'Aiea to force a second championship game.
Carvalho, a right-hander, retired the first 14 batters before issuing a walk to Kevin Furuike. The only hit allowed by Carvalho was an RBI triple by Keoni Chang with two outs in the sixth.
Both runs against Carvalho in the sixth were unearned.
"My fastball was working for me," he said. "I just had a good fastball and that's what made my curve work."
Chase Kaaua and Ridge Hoopii-Haslem both had two-run doubles in Hilo's five-run fourth.
HILO 10, 'AIEA 4
Hilo broke a 4-all tie in the sixth by scoring five runs, including three on wild pitches and one on a throwing error.
Hilo added another run in the seventh on another wild pitch.
"If there's a passed ball, we have the secondary lead and we're going to take that base," Wong said.
Goo's run-scoring single to right was the only RBI of the sixth. He also had a two-run, bad-hop double to left in the fifth, which put Hilo up 3-2.
"I just got the hits at the right time, got lucky," Goo said. "The rest of the team pulled through in this last game."
Hoopii-Haslem, who started at shortstop, allowed two runs over the final five innings for the victory.
