The Portland Trail Blazers signed rookie forward/guard Nicolas Batum, the team announced.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The 6-foot-8, 190-pound Batum fills a need for the Blazers, who see him as a wing defender. Batum, who turns 20 in December, has a wingspan of 7 feet 3.
The Trail Blazers acquired the rights to Batum, the 25th overall pick in this year's draft, from Houston in a Draft Day trade in exchange for the draft rights to Darrell Arthur (27th overall pick) and Joey Dorsey (33rd overall).
Batum played the last three seasons for MSB Le Mans in the French ProA League, averaging 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.33 steals in 2007-08. Additionally, he posted averages of 8.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in Euroleague play this past season.
Batum averaged 6.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 27.2 minutes in five games during last week's NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
