A 60-year-old California man was pulled from the ocean and pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital on Kauai this evening.

The man, a resident of San Jose, Calif., was found unresponsive at 4:46 pm, about 50 yards from the shoreline fronting the Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club in Poipu.

Surfers in the area brought the man to shore. Lifeguards performed CPR until fire fighters and medics arrived and took over CPR.
