The Hawaii Superferry is raising its one-way fare by $10.
The company, which carries passengers and vehicles on its ferry service between O'ahu and Maui, said it is raising its one-way rates to $59 for travel between Aug. 5 and Oct. 31.
It said one-way vehicle fares will remain at $65, while seniors, children, retired and active military personnel and their dependents will be charged $49.
Like airlines that have been raising fares because of fuel prices, so has the Superferry been bringing up what it charges. When it came out of drydock in April the company had a $39 one-way fare and a vehicle charge of $55.
The new one-way fares do not include taxes and fees and are subject to approval by the Public Utilities Commission. A fuel surcharge is not applicable. Rates are subject to change. The company said peak pricing will be applicable on certain days.
The current summer promotional rate of $49 each way is still available for bookings made before Aug. 5 for travel through Sept. 30.
The Superferry's ship, the Alakai, seats up to 800 passengers and can carry about 200 vehicles. It makes one roundtrip morning voyage daily between O'ahu and Maui. A second voyage between O'ahu and Maui is operated four days a week on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Superferry said customers can book either on the Internet or by telephone. Customers can visit www.hawaiisuperferry.com for schedules and fares and to make reservations. Customers can also make reservations by calling 877-HI-FERRY (877-443-3779) from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
