LATROBE, Pa. — Second-round draft pick Limas Sweed and offensive lineman Jeremy Parquet couldn't finish the Pittsburgh Steelers' second practice today because of cramping.

Neither player is expected to miss any additional time.

Sweed, a wide receiver from Texas who will play a key role in the offense, was taken off the field on a cart late in the afternoon practice — creating concerns he injured a hamstring or a groin. He caught a touchdown pass during a drill earlier in the practice.

"We took him off to protect him," coach Mike Tomlin said. "He's a guy who's run all day, who's run a bunch and had some opportunities and the body betrayed him a little bit."

Parquet is a fourth-year free agent lineman from Southern Mississippi.

The Steelers practiced twice in full pads on a humid day with temperatures in the mid-80s, something they do only a few days each camp. So their injury list was unusually long for only the fourth day of camp.

Also sitting out were inside linebacker James Farrior (groin), running back Mewelde Moore (undisclosed illness), offensive tackle Marvel Smith (groin) and punter Daniel Sepulveda (knee). Sepulveda's season-ending right knee surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament is scheduled for Aug. 6.

The Steelers have yet to place Sepulveda on the injured reserve list, which would officially end his season, but Tomlin suggested that move was imminent.

Paul Ernster, the former Broncos punter who was rushed into camp after Sepulveda was hurt Monday, spent his first day doing little punting. He was used as a holder during kicking drills.

The Steelers are looking at other punters, though Tomlin wouldn't say if Chris Gardocki, their punter before Sepulveda was drafted last year, or Mike Barr was among them.

Barr was cut by the Steelers every year from 2004-07 before hooking on last season with Arizona. He was cut by the Cardinals late in the season after averaging 40.4 yards, the third-lowest average for a player with as many punts (59).

"We're playing catch-up in regards to that, and looking at people is part of the process," Tomlin said.

The Steelers normally bring in a second punter to protect them in case of training camp injuries, but didn't do so this summer.

Tomlin said there was no update on the players who have yet to practice, safety Troy Polamalu (hamstring), nose tackle Casey Hampton (overweight) and left guard Chris Kemoeatu (triceps).
