Father arrested in incident of abuse

A father who allegedly smashed his daughter's computer with a hammer was released on $1,000 bail yesterday after being arrested by police.

Police said the 'Aiea man was arguing with his 17-year-old daughter earlier in the week over the use of her laptop computer when he banged it with the hammer and also hit his daughter.

He surrendered to police Friday after the daughter reported the incident to school authorities. Police said she was not seriously injured.

The father was charged with abuse of a household member.



DRIVER IN CUSTODY IN ROAD-RAGE CASE

A 47-year-old motorist was in police custody last night after allegedly punching another driver in the face.

Police said the assault occurred Friday in Hawai'i Kai. The victim was driving on Kalaniana'ole Highway when the other driver pulled up, pointed a finger at him and began to swear, police said.

The suspect then blocked the front of the victim's car, got out and allegedly hit the 30-year-old man and his car. He fled the scene but was arrested later by police.



BLOOD BANK OFFERS MALASADAS COUPON

The Blood Bank of Hawai'i has a sweet deal for donors this month.

Donors who give a pint of blood on any Monday in June will receive a coupon for six free malasadas, Blood Bank officials said.

The coupon can be redeemed for either cinnamon or sugar malasadas from Leonard's Bakery, which said it made the offer to help thank volunteer donors for their efforts.



BOYS ARRESTED IN HONOLULU WILDFIRE

Two boys arrested on suspicion of starting a brushfire in Honolulu have been released pending further investigation, police said yesterday.

The boys, 11 and 12, were arrested Friday afternoon after witnesses detained them near the area of the fire.

One of the boys, who tried to run away from the area, had burns on his face, police said.
