Police are investigating a fatal pickup truck crash yesterday on Nu'uanu Pali Drive as an unattended death rather than a traffic accident due to an apparent suicide note found in the vehicle.
The identity of the 35-year-old man killed in the one-vehicle crash will be released by the Honolulu medical examiner's office upon ID confirmation. Final disposition of the case is pending an autopsy scheduled for today.
The man was the lone occupant in a 1998 Ford pickup headed south on Nu'uanu Pali Drive at about 10:05 a.m. when it veered to the left of the roadway and ran head-on into a large tree about a half-mile north of Pali Highway, according to vehicular homicide investigator Sgt. Danny Kaholokula.
