Police have identified the two people who were killed last night on Maui in separate accidents on Honoapi'ilani Highway and Haleakala Crater Road within two hours of each other.
At 6:05 p.m., 32-year-old William Rodriguez of Kihei was killed when he crashed his Honda 600cc motorcycle on Honoapi'ilani Highway, one-tenth of a mile from the pali tunnel. He was traveling east when he went off the right shoulder, lost control and hit a guardrail, police said. The crash tossed him from his bike and he died from his injuries.
The second fatality occurred at 7:57 p.m. on Haleakala Crater Road. Police said Lin Robinson of the United Kingdom was sitting in the rear passenger seat when the car Robinson was in with three other people ran into a rock embankment. Robinson, 56, was the lone fatality.
The accident happened on Highway 378, .01 miles south of Aolewa Street in Kula.
Police do not know if speed, drugs or alcohol were involved at this time.
The deaths are Maui's 10th and 11th traffic fatalities of 2008.
