Minor earthquakes rattle Big Island areas

A minor earthquake ratted portions of the Big Island about 6:30 Tuesday evening.

The United States Geological Survey assigned a preliminary magnitude of 2.6 to the temblor, whose epicenter was about 10 miles southeast of Volcano, Hawaii, and about 9 miles south of Fern Forest.
A 2.7-magnitude quake struck the same general area at 4:23 p.m., the U.S.G.S. said.
There were no reports of injuries of damage from either of the quakes.
