WAILUKU — Gov. Linda Lingle is being asked to stop Molokai Ranch from discontinuing its water and sewer service on the Friendly Island.
The request comes from a number of elected officials, including Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares, state Sen. Kalani English and state Rep. Mele Carroll.
Officials of the ranch's parent company, Molokai Properties Ltd., say financial conditions make it impossible to continue the services after August.
The company services about 1,200 customers on the island that had 2,305 households as of the 2000 Census.
A message seeking comment from the governor wasn't immediately returned.
Molokai Ranch owns roughly one-third of the island. Earlier this year, it announced it was shutting down.
