Officials with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands are expected to join Gov. Linda Lingle this afternoon to announce a partnership between the two agencies on a housing financing initiative.

Details were not immediately disclosed.

Historically, DHHL has had jurisdiction over thousands of acres designated for Hawaiian homesteaders but has been unable to get the financing to build the roads, water and sewer lines and other infrastructure necessary to finance their development.

OHA, meanwhile, has long been known as cash-rich and land-poor as it tries to meet its mission to help Native Hawaiians.
