Marlene Zeug has been named 'Iolani School's girls varsity basketball coach.
"It's a tremendous responsibility and I am honored," Zeug said. "Carrying on 'Iolani's successful program, I hope to develop girls that are not only smart on the court but who also have good character."
A 1991 graduate of Punahou School, Zeug played high school basketball in 1990 and 1991 and also competed in soccer, cross country and track. She played basketball for Colgate University and earned a bachelor's degree in molecular biology. She later earned an MBA from Chaminade University.
Zeug has been a head coach for the Punahou intermediate and junior varsity girls basketball teams. In 2003, she was the assistant head coach for the Punahou varsity team that finished as the runner-up in the state tournament. She has also coached basketball for the Manoa Girls Athletic Club and the Kalakaua Basketball Clinic. In 2000, she led a Kalakaua team to the Oregon City High School Tournament for the first time.
Zeug works as the division manager for member programs and services at the YWCA. She succeeds Glenn Takara, who stepped down after eight years.
