MLB: Eleven players with Hawaii ties drafted

Eleven players with ties to Hawai'i were picked in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft that ended at about 1:23 p.m., HST, today.
Recent Mililani High graduate Dustin Antolin, a pitcher, was the first picked, an 11th-round selection by the Toronto Blue Jays. Shortly after, the Blue Jays took Hawai'i junior pitcher Matt Daly in the 13th round.
Antolin was one of three local high school players taken. Kolten Wong of Kamehameha-Hawai'i and a UH recruit was taken in the 16th round by the Minnesota Twins and 'Aiea High pitcher Randy Castillo was taken in the 31st round by the Seattle Mariners.
Daly, who has another year of eligibility, was one of four Rainbows picked. Jon Hee was drafted as a second baseman by the Boston Red Sox in the 21st round and outfielder Brandon Haislet was picked in the 23rd round by the Philadelphia Phillies. Catcher Landon Hernandez, who also has a season of eliigibility was picked in the 50th round by the Detroit Tigers.
Hawai'i Pacific pitcher Kaimi Mead, a Roosevelt alumnus, was taken in the 18th round by the Cleveland Indians. He is done with eligibility with the Sea Warriors.
Hawai'i players at Mainland schools picked were Cal Poly pitcher Derrick Saito, a 2005 graduate of Baldwin, who was takenin the 16th round by the Kansas City Royals and shortstop Troy Hanzawa, a 2003 Mid-Pacific graduate, who was taken in the 16th round by the Phillies out of San Diego State.
A UH recruit, catcher Nick Croce of Mission Bay High in San Diego, was taken in the 45th round by the Atlanta Braves.
A total of 1,504 players were picked in the 50-round draft that started yesterday.
