Island music the perfect summertime refreshment is abundant and awaiting your listening ears.
Many summer events will be presented outdoors. With hot days and warm nights under way, a listening session under the stars is a sure bet for nourishing the senses.
Most events are family-friendly; some have admission fees, many are free.
One potential biggie: The Waimanalo Kanikapila, paying tribute to the legendary Gabby "Pops" Pahinui, in August. It's a new event, and it will boast scores of singers and strummers eager to salute Pahinui.
Some concerts take place at the Honolulu Zoo, others at the Waikiki Aquarium both great places to take the family and show the kids around.
You'll encounter Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning troupers at the Made In Hawaii Festival, which also features crafts, food and goods.
Musical choices run the gamut, including 'ukulele music, Hawaiian-kine favorites, ki ho'alu, traditional Hawaiian with hula, jazz and Island contemporary.
In addition to the summer's annual series, there are promising one-time summer happenings on the menu, including a song contest without modern amplification, a ki ho'alu festival in the park, and a concert featuring the largest known 'ukulele band (1,000-plus and growing).
Let the music begin ...
