Honolulu detectives yesterday were still investigating an apparent late Friday night melee and stabbing at Sand Island Park in which a juvenile was taken into custody on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder and four men were hospitalized.
Details were sketchy last night, but HPD's criminal investigation division confirmed that a fight was reported at Sand Island Park around 11:20 p.m.
Police were called, and a 14-year-old boy was taken into custody on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, police said.
Two men involved in the incident, ages 23 and 21, were taken to The Queen's Medical Center, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for Emergency Medical Services.
The older man, who had been stabbed, was admitted in serious condition, he said. The other man, who had not been stabbed, was admitted in stable condition, he said.
Two other men involved in the fight were taken to the Kuakini Medical Center in stable condition, Cheplic said.
SWIMMER PULLED FROM OCEAN DIES
A man died after being pulled from the ocean off Waikiki yesterday, officials said.
Lifeguards said the man was found unconscious in the water fronting the Royal Hawaiian Hotel about 2 p.m.
He was brought to shore, given CPR, and taken to Straub Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The man was described only as being between 40 and 50 years old.
An autopsy will be performed.
