When Punahou's record-setting five-time state championship baseball dynasty faced its most perilous moments, Jeeter Ishida was there to calmly help keep the streak alive.

Five minutes before the Buffanblu's 2007 state quarterfinal game against Hilo, Ishida slipped in the dugout and sprained his left ankle. But he made the start anyway, pitching a complete game with 10 strikeouts, then came back two nights later with the ankle still tender and allowed only one run with six strikeouts to lead Punahou to its fifth straight title.

Last month, Roosevelt took a shocking 8-7 lead in the top of the seventh inning and was about to make it 9-7 when Ishida made a perfect relay throw home to nab the runner at the plate, despite a shoulder injury that kept him off the pitcher's mound for most of the season.

The Buffanblu ended up scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win, 9-8, then went on to complete the Drive for Five.

Ishida has been at the core of Punahou's past four state titles, playing a key role as a freshman, earning Advertiser All-State first team recognition as a sophomore and State Player of the Year honors as a junior. This year, after the shoulder injury, Jeeter remained in the lineup as a designated hitter and later helped out at first base.

But baseball was not the only sport where Ishida was part of a Buffanblu dynasty. He helped Punahou win four straight ILH water polo championships and was twice named to the league's all-star first team.

Ishida also maintained a 3.7 grade point average and will spend part of this month as a volunteer camp counselor for youth in Croatia. He will then attend Arizona State University, where he plans to play baseball and already has been accepted into the W.P. Carey School of Business.
