Smash Mouth to perform Aug. 2 at Shell

Smash Mouth, the multi-platinum rock band from San Jose which has been hot on the pop charts, will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Waikiki Shell. Hawai'i's Go Jimmy Go will be the opening act.

The group's hits include "Walkin' on the Sun" and "All Star," but a cluster of covers of pop faves also have elevated its popularity. Among the group's other revival chartbusters: The Monkees' "I'm a Believer" (featured in the "Shrek" film), War's "Why Can't We Be Friends,} The Beatles' "Getting Better," and The Four Seasons' "Can't Get Enough of You Baby."

Smash Mouth has logged album sales exceeding $10 million world-wide; its fifth CD, "Summer Girl," has been released on the group's own label, Beautiful Bomb Records.

Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. June 14, at the Blaisdell Center box office and Ticketmaster locations, including Times Supermarket sites, for the public; but Verizon Wireless customers may purchase priority tickets, beginning today. Verizon Wireless is teaming with Hawaii Pacific Entertainment and JP Productions in presenting the Smash Mouth show.

Tickets: $55 for the pit, $45 for the terrace and $30 for the general admission lawn area; military admission for the lawn is $25.
