POLICE BEAT
Suspect sought in fatal bar stabbing

Advertiser Staff

Police are seeking a 25-year-old man for questioning in connection with a fatal stabbing early yesterday outside of a Kane'ohe bar.

A 19-year-old man was reported stabbed with a folding knife at 12:31 a.m. in the parking lot of Club Komomai, just off Kamehameha Highway near the Kane'ohe Shopping Center strip mall and behind the Honolulu Fire Department station.

The victim was taken to Castle Medical Center, where he died at 12:58 a.m. The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office yesterday declined to release the man's name. An autopsy was scheduled for today.

According to police, the suspect was arguing with a woman believed to be his girlfriend and allegedly struck her. The victim reportedly intervened and was stabbed with the knife. The suspect, who fled the scene, reportedly has a criminal conviction record.

WATERFALL PLUNGE FATAL TO HILO MAN

A 29-year-old Hilo man died yesterday of injuries suffered in a fall from the top of Pe'epe'e Falls in the upper Pi'ihonua area of Hilo.

Witnesses say the man, identified as Jensen Adam Stein, appeared to jump from a ledge near the top of the falls at about 11:25 a.m., according to Hilo police. He landed on a rock outcropping about 80 feet below, police said.

Hawaii County Fire Department personnel used a rescue helicopter to recover his body, which was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 1:36 p.m.

It was the second time in two weeks that a man had died at the falls.

On May 27, a 27-year-old Puna man, Vincent E. Scerbo, died at the falls, also known as "Boiling Pots." Police said Scerbo drowned when he fell or jumped from above the waterfall.
