VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Former Indianapolis Colts defensive back Dexter Reid had his driver's license suspended six months for a felony drug conviction.

Circuit Judge Thomas Padrick Jr. today also ordered Reid to attend drug treatment. The 27-year-old Reid had faced up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty in January to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He was acquitted of carrying a concealed weapon.

Defense attorney James O. Broccoletti asked Padrick to reduce the drug charge to a misdemeanor, arguing there was no intention to sell the marijuana. The judge denied the motion.

Reid was arrested in March after a traffic stop. According to testimony, an officer found a handgun and about three ounces of marijuana packaged in several small containers.

The New England Patriots drafted Reid in the fourth round in 2004. He was part of the Patriots' Super Bowl-winning team in 2005 and earned another ring in 2007 with the Colts, who released him shortly after the Super Bowl victory.
