Lingle signs off on $10.79B budget

Gov. Linda Lingle has signed the state's $10.79 billion operating budget bill into law.

The budget bill also includes $2 billion for capital improvements in the fiscal year beginning July 1.

Other measures enacted by the governor include a law aimed at addressing coqui frog infestation on the Big Island and creation of an online database of Bishop Museum archaeological information.



SOMETHING NEW AT CULTURAL CENTER

The Polynesian Cultural Center will celebrate the grand opening of its newest attraction, Halau Wa'a O Iosepa, or Iosepa canoe house of learning, beginning at 3 p.m. June 28.

Admission to the center is free for residents with a Hawai'i picture ID, and the program includes a cultural presentation, hula, and a 6 p.m. concert featuring Willie K.

Iosepa is an all-wood, double-hulled Hawaiian voyaging canoe that was built in La'ie by master builders and residents.

LAWMAKER TO HOLD TALK-STORY SESSION

State Rep. Sharon Har, D-40th (Royal Kunia, Makakilo, Kapolei), will hold a talk-story session from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Royal Kunia Community Association office on Kupuohi Street above the Kunia Times Supermarket.

Har will provide an update on the recently completed legislative session and will also field questions from the public.
