NFL: Chad Johnson to have surgery
Advertiser Staff and wire reports
Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Johnson is scheduled to undergo ankle surgery today, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.
Johnson is expected to be ready for training camp. Last week, Johnson and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said the receiver had bone chips in his ankle that required surgery.
Johnson fully participated in drills for the first time Saturday. He limited himself to a few drills during workouts on Thursday and Friday, saying through Rosenhaus that he had a bad ankle.
Johnson has been lobbying for a trade since the Bengals went 7-9 last season. The Bengals refused to deal him, and Johnson threatened to sit out the season. He didn't attend any of the team's voluntary workouts. He faced a fine if he didn't attend the mandatory, three-day minicamp last week.
