Punahou to recycle building's floor

Advertiser Staff

Punahou School is donating the old flooring from Hemmeter Fieldhouse, a gym currently under renovation, to Re-Use Hawai'i, a non-profit that recycles construction materials.

The floor of the Hemmeter Fieldhouse, the site of ILH games, is about 20,000 square feet of maple floorboards. The wood salvaged from the floor represents nearly 113 trees or 28,908 cubic feet of diverted landfill. The wood will be resold to green contractors and homeowners.
