PA'IA
Abandoned building, trailers damaged by fire

A fire yesterday in Pa'ia damaged an abandoned building and three trailers containing bicycles used by a tour company.

The fire, reported at 9:42 a.m., caused an estimated $60,000 in damage, according to acting battalion chief Allen Duarte.

A quick response by the Pa'ia Fire Station crew kept the blaze from reaching an unoccupied retail building less than 10 feet away, Duarte said.

Fire crews brought the flames under control at 11:01 a.m. A portion of Baldwin Avenue between Puakou Place and the Pa'ia Mill was closed to traffic during the incident, which involved a 50-by-40-foot abandoned building and the trailers.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
