Baseball: Cubs put Zambrano on disabled list
Associated Press
CHICAGO — The Cubs placed pitcher Carlos Zambrano on the 15-day disabled list because of a shoulder strain.
The move, announced today, is retroactive to June 19. Tests show a minor strain in his right shoulder.
Zambrano is 8-3 with a 3.13 ERA in 16 starts this season. The right-hander left the start in Tampa Bay on Wednesday after allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks, striking out two.
The Cubs also recalled infielder Eric Patterson from Triple-A Iowa.
He'll be available for Game 2 of the Cubs' series against the Chicago White Sox at Wrigley Field.
