LAUSANNE, Switzerland — The 2010 World Sprint Speed Skating Championships have been moved from Finland to Japan.
The International Skating Union switched the site from Helsinki to Obihiro, with the meet scheduled for Jan. 16-17, 2010. The only other 2010 championships awarded by the ISU on Sunday were the synchronized skating worlds, which will be April 9-10 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
In 2011, the World Figure Skating Championships will be March 21-27 in Nagano, Japan, site of the 1998 Winter Olympics.
The 2011 all-around speed skating worlds were provisionally awarded to Calgary, Alberta; the world sprints to Heerenveen, Netherlands; short track worlds to Sheffield, England; short track team worlds to Warsaw, Poland; and the single distance speed skating worlds to Inell, Germany.
The 2011 junior worlds in speed skating will be in Seinajoki, Finland, while the junior short track worlds will be held in Aosta, Italy.
European championships also were awarded for 2011: figure skating in Bern, Switzerland; speed skating in Innsbruck, Austria; and the short track speed skating in Heerenveen.
