Lingle puts 52 bills on her veto watch list
Gov. Linda Lingle today gave state House and Senate leaders a list of 52 bills that she may veto.
The bills include proposals to create an Early Learning Council to guide early childhood education, establish a commission to consolidate or close public schools, and allow permanent absentee voting. Other bills would expand a service fee for the inspection of freight for invasive species and set a task force to study issues surrounding medical marijuana.
Lingle has 10 working days — or until July 8 — to decide whether to veto the bills. The state Legislature can return for an override session to take up any of the governor's vetoes.
