July 4 paddleboard race starts at Sunset Beach
The 30th Annual Hui O He'e Nalu Independence Day Paddleboard Race begins at 11 a.m. July 4 at Sunset Beach and will finish at Waimea Bay.
In conjunction with the race is the second annual Keiki Ocean Challenge that will be held at Waimea Bay after the paddleboard race awards ceremony. Children and parents can sign up for the free event on the morning of the race at the Waimea Bay lifeguard stand.
This year the 3.5-mile Hui O He'e Nalu race will include two new events: wahine stand-up paddle open and active-duty military, which is a complimentary entry.
Paddlers have until June 30 to sign up in order to guarantee a race tank top that is included in the entry fee of $30 and $40 for tandem. The entry form can be downloaded at dahui.com.
