WAIMANALO
Work begins on 52-unit single-family subdivision
The state officially broke ground yesterday on a new 52-unit single-family subdivision in Waimanalo on Hawaiian Home Lands.
The project, on Kumuhau Street, coincides with the expansion of the Waimanalo Wastewater Treatment Plant using money granted in 2006.
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs also contributed to this and other Hawaiian Home Lands projects with a $3 million-a-year grant to cover up to 30 years of debt service for up to $40 million in revenue bonds to bolster DHHL's construction budget.
Attending the ceremony were Gov. Linda Lingle, trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, legislative leaders, other government and community leaders and future homeowners.
