Kailua Fourth of July parade ready to roll

An island tradition will continue at 10 a.m. Friday when the Kailua Chamber Of Commerce's annual Fourth of July Parade gets under way from the corner of Omao Street and Kainalu Drive.

Nonprofit organizations, businesses, community groups, political campaign entries, marching bands and horse units will be in the parade as well as elected political figures.

The parade will be led by Kailua business activist and parade Grand Marshall, Jack Richardson. Music will be provided by the Celtic Pipes & Drums, Royal Hawaiian Band and several parade entrants. Military and veterans' groups will be represented by the Hawaii Army National Guard, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Korean War Veterans,

This is the 62nd year of the parade, and the 2008 theme is Hau'oli La Hanau (Happy Birthday) America!

Later in the evening, the annual fireworks display at Kailua Bay will be presented following an aerobatic demonstration beginning at 6 p.m. The fireworks display is set for 8 p.m. and is sponsored by Clear Channel Radio, Kaneohe Ranch and several local businesses.
