TONIGHT'S MIGHT-SEES
"Olympic trials," 7 p.m., NBC. Last weekend, the gymnasts got the spotlight. Now others get their turn. NBC has highlights from the track-and-field trials tonight and tomorrow. Also tomorrow night, it will wrap up the swimming trials.
"The Tenth Circle," 6 p.m., Lifetime. On one level, this story is hideously overwrought. It piles up coincidences, as the same characters keep colliding. On another, however, it is superbly crafted. Director Peter Markle (an Emmy-nominee for "Flight 93") gets rich visuals and perfect performances. Britt Robertson (Samantha on "Swingtown") plays Trixie, a child-woman at 15. Pondering sex, she suddenly finds her life out of control. Then come the coincidences and the bone-headed choices. Those are in a soap-opera style; all the other elements — including Kelly Preston and Ron Eldard as Trixie's parents — are in the style of great drama.
OF NOTE
"CSI: NY," 7 p.m., CBS. The animal kingdom turns nasty tonight. A cobra is inside a sports car; falling pigeons kill a parachutist.
"The Haunted Mansion" (2003), 7 p.m., ABC. Based loosely on a Disneyland ride, this has Eddie Murphy taking his clan in a ghost-filled house.
"Matilda" (1996, 8 p.m.) and "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" (1971, 10 p.m.), ABC Family. Here's a dandy double feature for families, based on bizarre stories by Roald Dahl. "Matilda," beautifully directed by Danny DeVito, is clever in a gloomy way; "Willy Wonka" is just fun.
"The Unit," 8 p.m., CBS. Embassy workers and their families must be rescued amid violence in the Ivory Coast.
"Law & Order," 8 p.m., NBC. When three roommates are killed, police suspect a messy love triangle. Then they find deeper secrets.
"Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 9 p.m., NBC. When a gossip columnist is killed, there are plenty of suspects.
"Saturday Night Live," 10:29 p.m., NBC. Ellen Page ("Juno") hosts, with music by Wilco.
