Big Island police arrested 21 motorists for drunk driving last week, bringing this year's DUI arrest total to 227. Last year at this time 214 DUI arrests were made, 6 percent less than this year.

Of the drivers arrested last week, six were involved in traffic crashes and five were under the age of 21.

Big Island police also reported a 19 percent decrease in major accidents this year. The 327 major accidents in 2008 compare to the 404 during the same period last year.
