Ten arrested at cockfight; guns, drugs seized

HILO, Hawai'i — Big Island police arrested 10 people Sunday at a cockfight in Honaunau where drugs and weapons were also seized.
Police said more than 100 people were attending a cockfight at a 9.6-acre property on Napo'opo'o Road in Honaunau.
Police seized about 40 chickens and chicken boxes, extensive cockfighting paraphernalia and four dead chickens.
Also seized were two .30-30-caliber rifles, a .22-caliber long rifle, a .357-caliber pistol and ammunition from the premises. Police also seized $27,429 in cash for forfeiture.
Arrested for gambling and cruelty to animals were five Honaunau men and a Waimea man.
Police also arrested a 32-year-old Waimea man for promotion of dangerous drugs; a 21-year-old Kailua, Kona, man for promoting detrimental drugs; and a Honaunau man and woman for possession of a firearm without a permit.
