Hawai'i Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force agents today arrested a Pearl Ridge man for investigation of first-degree electronic enticement of a child.
The suspect, 23, was taken into custody at 3:45 p.m. at the University of Hawai'i's Institute for Astronomy, 2680 Woodlawn Drive, in Manoa.
The man is being held at the main police station cellblock with charges pending. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
Similar cases usually involve sting operations in which a task force investigator pretends to be a teenage girl in online chats which usually leads to an arraged meeting for sex. Agreeing to meet and actually attempting to meet are necessary elements of the electronic enticement offense.
