Polaha, Burns reunite on new TV series Guided'

Remember Kristoffer Polaha and Brooke Burns, from the short-lived Island-based "North Shore" TV series? The pair reunite on ABC's "Miss Guided," premiering at 8 p.m. March 18 (following "Dancing With the Stars"), which moves to its regular slot at 8 p.m. Thursdays starting March 20. He plays Tim O'Malley and she is Lisa Germain in a story about a guidance counselor returning to her high school. Ashton Kutcher is producing. ...

Keyshia Cole, the Geffen Records platinum hip-hop artist who has three hits from her "Just Like You" CD, has been in the Islands this week, filming a video for her fourth single, "Heaven Sent." Benny Boom is the video director; the single, based on the poem "Footprints," was written by Cole. You can see her in the current People magazine. ...

Blade Rogers ("Flight 29 Down"), son of Scott Rogers of Kumu Kahua and the Academy of Film & Television, has earned acceptance into the prestigious filmmaking School of Visual Arts in New York. Blade is cutting his film tooth as a player alongside some of his father's students with a speaking par) in SAG film "Special Delivery," which has started production. ...

GREAT EXPECTATIONS: Keali'i Reichel fans: His "Kukahi" DVD will be available in Blu-ray, arriving with a blue cover on May 6. Dennis Mahaffay directed the program — a must-have for Hawaiiana fans. ...

ALSO: Singer-guitarist Makana's "Different Game," released in 2006 and originally available online and at live shows, is expected to be issued as a CD on April 22. It joins rock, folk, blues and bluegrass to his ki ho'alu sound as he expands and updates his music. "My music is about exploring," he says. ...

Bill Tapia celebrated his 100th birthday with a recent Diamond Head Theatre concert, and he drew a standing-room-only throng. He and the aforementioned Makana, his special guest, both proved to be fashion plates: Tapia sporting a tam o'shanter, a sports jacket worn over a checkered shirt, and red jeans, duds showing off a youthful swagger, and Makana, retro and still dapper in a Moschino suit capped by a handwoven Panama hat. ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Chef Sam Choy (Sam Choy's in Kapahulu, Sam Choy's Breakfast, Lunch & Crab in 'Iwilei) enjoyed his first-ever stay at Maui's Old Wailuku Inn a few nights back. The guests sure enjoyed him," reports innkeeper Janice Fairbanks. "They all sat around the breakfast table this morning for a couple of hours talking about the Food Network and its celebrity chefs, chefs on cruise ships and everything in between. Only thing not touched on was politics which, of course, everyone knows is a no-no!" ...

Former KPOI jock Dave Lawrence, still seeking a mike spot on local radio, continues to post podcasts on his fan Web site, dlarmy.com. His latest: Jorma Kaukonen, the Hot Tuna and ex-Jefferson Airplane guitarist, pegged to Tuna's recent show at the Hawaiian Hut. A conversation with War keyboardist Lonnie Jordan, who concertized at Pipeline Cafe, also will be shared online. ...

ITEMIZATIONS: Go see Army Community Theatre's "Aida," at Richardson Theatre at Fort Shafter. Once you get through the discomforting security check (a 9/11 residual humbug), you'll appreciate the splendor of voices and the splendid chorus ensemble. Shanan Ashlee Colvin as Aida, Shawna Masuda as Amneris and Jimi Wheeler as Radames show remarkable prowess in the opera-based tale of confused loyalties and love, a reflection of director Vanita Rae Smith's savvy in bringing out the best of everyone. And wow, that pre-intermission "The Gods Love Nubia" number is a showstopper. ...

Edith Leong has been an avid supporter of the arts and of young troupers at Saint Louis School, where she invited a group from the Boys & Girls Club to attend last Sunday's matinee performance of "Aladdin" at the Mamiya Theatre. She called David Nakada, the group's exec director, and he helped assemble 100 youngsters to a pizza party and the show; Leong also got First Hawaiian Bank to throw in some cookies and tapped her son Dave, of Dave's Ice Cream, for cool dessert. ...

FINALLY: Augie T will be performing tomorrow on Maui, at Maui Arts & Cultural Center, so his La Salle gig at the Pagoda Hotel is off. However, when he tours in the future, the slot will be filled by national comics. The first will be Dante on April 18, when Augie heads for Las Vegas. ...

Augie has attracted a diverse crowd, including the offensive line from the University of Hawai'i Warriors team, TV anchorwoman Jill Kuramoto, singer Jimmy Borges and show entrepreneur Jack Cione. ...
