HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i at Manoa will hold a series of events that will address why "Diversity Matters at Manoa," through lectures, workshops performances and film screenings, March 10-14. Events will be held on campus and in the community.
"Diversity Matters at Manoa means we strive for an inclusive and equitable campus community for all faculty, staff and students," said Amy Agbayani, director of the Office of Student Equity, Excellence and Diversity and a member of the Manoa Commission on Diversity.
"Diversity is a term that is used frequently by many college administrations as they recruit students and faculty. As campuses evolve towards a more inclusive environment for all students, it becomes more imperative that we understand the multi faceted dimensions of diversity and how it celebrates differences in age, economic class, culture, disability, ethnicity, national origin, race, gender, religion and sexual identity and orientation," Agbayani said.
The Manoa Commission on Diversity has arranged for a slate of activities that address these issues. Many of the activities are free and open to all members of the UH Manoa campus and community. Please call Pua Auyong at 222-5591 or e-mail paw@hawaii.edu for more information. Registration is required for certain sessions and workshops.
