Sheila Coronel will be the keynote speaker for the Freedom of Information Day luncheon at 11:30 a.m. March 17 at the Hawai'i Imin International Conference Center, East-West Center.

Coronel, director of the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism at Columbia University, will give a speech titled, "Endangered Watchdogs? Investigative Reporting in Trouble Times."

The Ah Jook Ku Lecture Series is sponsored by the Honolulu Community-Media Council, East-West Center, Society of Professional Journalists, University of Hawai'i School of Communications, Student Equity Excellence and Diversity, and University of Hawai'i West O'ahu.

Coronel has reported on the Marcos regime and its aftermath in the Philippines including human rights abuses, the growing democratic movement and the election of Corazon Aquino.
