High-surf advisory posted for north, west shores

Advertiser Staff

A high-surf advisory has been issued for north- and west-facing shores on Ni'ihau, Kaua'i and O'ahu, according to the National Weather Service.

An incoming northwest swell is expected to generate surf in the range of 12 feet to 16 feet on the north shores of the affected islands and 8 feet to 12 feet along west-facing shores.

The surf is expected to fall below the advisory level tonight. The high-surf advisory will remain in effect until 6 p.m. this evening.

Surf along south-facing shores will remain 3 feet to 5 feet through today while surf of 1 foot to 2 feet is expected along east-facing shores.

The incoming northwest swell will peak today then slowly decrease through the rest of the week. Another small south swell is expected Thursday and Friday. The next northwest swell is forecast to arrive on Sunday and is expected to result in surf below advisory criteria at this time.
