UH Manoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw will lead student, staff and faculty volunteers on Saturday in planting 16 monkeypod trees from 9:30 a.m. to noon along Dole Street — the first in a series of "Manoa Makeover" campus improvement projects.

The trees will provide shade, help reduce air pollution and global warming, and improve the beauty of the 300-acre Manoa campus, according to a university news release.

"Our students and administrators will be working side-by-side to plant the seeds for a second century of greatness at our Manoa campus," Hinshaw said.

"We want to make this campus a destination of choice that's known for its beauty as well as its outstanding educational and research programs," said Hinshaw.

Future "Manoa Makeover" volunteer projects will include more tree-plantings, painting, cleanups, and other campus improvements. Sodexho will be providing refreshments for volunteers.
