News ratings offer some good news for Hawaii stations

Advertiser Staff

The latest Hawai'i television news ratings offered some good news for three local stations.

KHON news — with veteran anchor Joe Moore — still holds a popularity lock on the 6 p.m. local news ratings. KITV surged ahead of the other stations at 5 p.m. on weekdays. And KGMB9 held on to its dominant spot for the 10 p.m. late news slot, according to the latest Nielsen ratings.

The top-ranking for Fox affiliate KHON at 6 p.m. is old news in the Hawai'i market but competition for the other shows has shifted back and forth. KGMB9 marketing director Candace Hirleman noted that her station was tops for the late news for the sixth-straight ratings period, known as "sweeps" in the television news business.

KHNL has been trailing for all those newscasts.
