Carvalho top center in D1-AA football

Brennan Carvalho, a 2004 Kamehameha grad from Kapa'a who played center for Portland State University's football team, was named Monday as a 2007 Rimington Award winner for NCAA Division I-AA.
The Rimington Award recognizes the most outstanding centers from each of the smaller NCAA divisions and the NAIA.
The 6-foot-1, 310-pound Carvalho was a three-time All-Big Sky Conference selection. He earned the starting job during his freshman year and never relinquished it.
Carvalho started 39 games for the Vikings and was named a first team All-American in his junior and senior years.

NAGAMINE CLAIMS FIRST VICTORY BY SHOT
Cal State Northridge freshman Ashlee Nagamine (La Pietra '07) won the Elco Inc. Intercollegiate yesterday in Bakersfield, Calif., finishing the two-day tourney at 9-over 157 for her first collegiate victory.
Nagamine was in second place after Monday's 4-over 78. She shot a 79 yesterday to edge Portland's Taryn Kuida by one stroke.
Portland freshman Lisa Okazaki (Mid-Pacific '07) finished at 16-over 164 to tie for eighth and help the Pilots win the team title with a 644. Cal State Northridge finished second out of six teams at 656.
BASEBALL
MILILANI GRAD NAKATA HELPS WILLAMETTE WIN
Willamette's Kelsey Nakata (Mililani '05) pitched eight scoreless innings against George Fox, the top-hitting team in the Northwest Conference, in an 11-2 victory on March 15.
Nakata allowed two unearned runs in the ninth.
Scott Martin (Punahou '06) replaced Nakata to finish the game.
