The city will close the Mokule'ia Beach Park comfort station this week until a new one is constructed, but freshwater showers will be available.
The comfort station has deteriorated to the point that it is no longer structurally sound, said Les Chang, director of the city Department of Parks and Recreation.
Chang said his concern for public safety prompted the decision.
Electric power to the comfort station will be cut as well, then the city will board up the building and eventually demolish it, said Bill Brennan, city spokesman.
Brennan didn't know whether portable toilets would be provided, but he said the plan is to rebuild some time in the future.
