A career marked by unselfish team play culminated in a high individual honor for Radford's Brittini Fuller, who was named Player of the Year in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's Western Division after a recent vote of league coaches.
Fuller, a 5-foot-4 senior guard and three-year starter, helped the Rams capture their fourth consecutive West championship with a 12-0 regular season record.
Fuller used her deceptive speed to bring the ball up against pressure and also run down defenders on fast breaks, and she did just enough scoring, rebounding and making assists to keep a well-balanced offense running smoothly.
And with standout center Ta Nitra Byrd missing almost the entire nonleague season with an injury, Fuller helped to hold the team together as team captain.
Fuller is joined on the OIA West's All-Star first team by fellow Ram Marlena Malepeai, Nanakuli senior Sasha Montez and 'Aiea junior Natasha Helsham and senior Capri Holiona.
Like Fuller, Malepeai was an all-around contributor and team player. A 5-foot-8 senior forward and four-year starter, she helped the Rams clinch the West title when she scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds in a Senior Night victory over Pearl City.
Malepaei had a nose for the ball, was a reliable mid-range shooter and played a key role in Radford's patient, opportunistic offense.
Helsham, an athletic 5-8 junior guard, and Holiona, a 5-6 senior center, gave Na Ali'i an effective inside-outside presence.
Montez was a steady performer for Nanakuli.
Tani Dutro, who took over the Rams' three-time defending West champ program in June for longtime coach David Lane, was voted Coach of the Year.
