KANE'OHE
Students to remind folks of storm drain pollution
The National Junior Honor Society at King Intermediate School will be reminding people on April 15 about the damages done to the ocean when pollutants enter the storm drain system.
The students will be stenciling messages on storm drains in Kane'ohe neighborhoods warning against dumping waste in storm drains and protecting the ocean.
The morning effort will include cleaning and recording pollutants in the storm drains and reporting the findings to the city Department of Environmental Services.
Finally the youths will be passing out packets of information covering recycling, hazardous waste disposal, bulky item collection and pollution tips.
